Content & Safety
Last updated June 3, 2026
WordBowl is a party game you play with people you know. Most of the game uses decks we write and review ourselves. A small part of the game lets players add their own words. This page explains how that works, what stays private, and how we keep everyone safe.
How custom games work
Players with a Pro subscription can create custom deck games. Inside one of those games, the people playing can add their own cards to that game’s bowl. This is the user-generated content in WordBowl, and it only ever lives inside a single private game.
Custom decks are private
- Custom decks are not public. They are not listed, searchable, browsable, or shared on a public feed.
- They are only viewable by the people who played in that game, through their own game history.
- Joining is by invitation. The host chooses who is in the game, so the only people who can see or add cards are the players that host invited.
What we can and cannot control
A private custom game works like a private group of friends passing a notebook around the table. We do not pre-screen the words players type into their own private games, and we cannot guarantee what another player will write. By design, that content stays inside the group that created it. If you play with people you do not trust, please keep that in mind before joining a custom game.
Objectionable content is not allowed
Even in a private game, content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, or otherwise abusive is not allowed anywhere in WordBowl. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive players. By adding a card, the player who wrote it is responsible for it and agrees to these rules.
Reporting content or players
If you see a card, deck, or player that breaks these rules, you can report it from your game history in the app, or email us at hello@wordbowl.app with the game and a short description. We review every report and act on objectionable content within 24 hours by removing it and, when needed, removing the player who posted it.
Blocking players
You can block another player. Once blocked, they cannot find you, invite you, or send you notifications, and we will warn you before you join any game that includes them. You can also leave any game at any time. If someone is making a game unsafe, blocking and reporting them together is the fastest way for us to step in.
Contact
Safety questions, reports, and appeals all go to hello@wordbowl.app. A real person reads them.
